1604 Abraham Ortelius Map of Turkey Ottoman Empire – Turcicum Imperium.
This Abraham Ortelius antique map is from the Aresenius engraving of 1601 and issued by Jan Keebergen in his ‘Ausszug…Abrahami Ortely theatro’ in 1604. This Abraham Ortelius map of the great Turkish Ottoman Empire stretches from the borders of Hungary in the north west to the eastern edges of Arabia and Persia in the east. It also includes Egypt in Africa and all of the present day Middle East. The map measures 4.5″ by 3.5″, has excellent hand colouring, and is in good condition with a little dirt in the lower blank margins.

1598 Abraham Ortelius Map of France – Gallia.
Philip Galle was the first to produce an ‘epitome’, or miniature version, in 1577 but others followed including the Arsenius brothers. This map is from the 1598 French edition of the first Galle engraving. This map of France has very elegant engraving, and fine detail; it divides the country into regions that are still recognisable today (Bretaigne, Normandie, Languedoc, Guascoigne etc). All major rivers and important cities stand out clearly. The map measures 4″ by 3″, has excellent wash hand colouring, and is in very good condition.

1599 Ortelius Map of South West Poland – Oswiec et Zatorien Ducatus.
This antique map is from the Marchetti engraving of 1598 and issued by Giovanni Botero in his ‘Relationi Universali…’ in 1599. It is the only issue placed between text. This Abraham Ortelius map of the region of south west Poland on the borders of Slovakia and Hungary, has simple engraving and good detail. The Vistula river is the dominant topographical feature, flowing from west to east across the map. The map measures 4.5″ by 3.5″, has excellent hand colouring, and is in very good condition with text above and below.

1590 Abraham Ortelius Map Touraine France – Turonensis Ducatus.
This scarce Ortelius Antique map is from the 1590 2nd Philip Galle French edition. This fine Abraham Ortelius map of the historic province of Touraine includes the cities of Tours, Amboise, Blois, Chinon; the relative sizes of the towns are illustrated; there is nice detail to rivers and woods; and the map has a decorative title cartouche and a scale of distance..
The map measures 4.5″ by 3.5″, has later wash hand colouring, and is in very good condition.

1595 Ortelius Map Limania Auvergne France.
This Ortelius antique map is from the 1595 2nd Philip Galle Latin edition. This fine Abraham Ortelius map of Auvergne titled Limania has very good detail showing many towns and cities such as Clermont, Monferrau, Beauregart, Beaumont; the map has very attractive illustrative detail to the Allier river, lakes, woods, and mountains, and there is a nice cartouche title and a scale of distance. Philip Galle was the first to produce an ‘epitome’, or miniature version, in 1577. The map measures 4.5″ by 3″, has wash hand colouring, and is in excellent condition.

1595 Abraham Ortelius Map – Languedoc in France. This minature antique map is from the 1595 2nd Latin edition by Philip Galle. This very fine, exceptionally attractive map of Languedoc and Provence in France is elegant and well engraved. The region shown includes the cities of Arles, Avignon, Marseille, Monpellier, and Narbonne; the relative sizes of the towns are illustrated, there is detail to major rivers, and the map has a very decorative title cartouche, lovely swash lettering, and a scale of distance. 1598 Abraham Ortelius Map – Brandeburgens Marcha. This minature Ortelius antique map is from the 1598 2nd Philip Galle French edition of Ortelius’s Epitome. This map of the March or Margraviate of Brandenburg has attractive engraving and good detail. It is centred around the city of Berlin which was later to become the capital of a united Germany in 1870. The map extends from Stettin and the Baltic Sea in the north to Silesia in the south and from Trier in the west to the boundary of Poland in the east. The map measures 4.5″ by 3″ plus margins and has wash hand colouring, and is in good condition with browning of the paper. Sold on eBay: Dec 29, 2010 Winning bid: US $64.00

1667 Ortelius Map – Barbaria et Biledulgerid. This antique map is from the very scarce 1667 Italian edition of Ortelius’s Epitome published as ‘Il Theatro del Mondo’. This map of North Africa and the Mediterranean has interesting detail to rivers and lakes, and place names shown include Marocho, Alger, Tunis, Tripoli, Palermo, Roma, Genoa, Barcelona, Sevilla, Lisbona, Malta. A scarce and unusual little map. The map measures 4″ by 3″, has wash hand colouring, and is in good condition. The ink mark was caused by a crack in the plate when the map was printed.
